Description

The model "frischling" belongs to the traditionally manufactured traditional nickers and is therefore a typical German knife - from PUMA Solingen.

The PUMA "frischling" is a classic nicker made of stainless steel in forged design. In German-speaking countries, this popular shape is also popularly used for the purpose of country customs as a traditional costume knife. The traditionally designed nicker is forged with the hand guard and has a roundel on which a handy deer horn roll with end cap sits. Whether used as a hunting or traditional knife...the Nicker has been in our pattern books for well over one hundred years and will certainly retain its nimbus as a "typical German knife" in the future.

Since we process natural products, optical deviations between knife illustration and the originals are possible.

PUMA - one Solingen brand with long tradition

PUMA is one of the great brands which have made Solingen famous as the "Klingenstadt" (the city of blades). The PUMA works ‘Werk Lauterjung und Sohn’ was founded in 1769. Today, just like 250 years ago, we manufacture knives and cutlery in top handmade quality under the brand name PUMA in Solingen, Germany. We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques.

The range of products made by PUMA from Solingen has an especial focus on classic knives made to the best handmade production techniques, with design-oriented forms and features, as well as for technical perfected cutlery. The range extends from fixed and folding classic hunting knives to knives for almost all outdoor activities, and to high-quality collector’s knives.

Sharpening

Use a diamond tool or a wet stone for sharpening. Place the knife bevel flat to the sharpening tool and work the entire blade. Work one side until you can feel a slight burr on the opposite side. Switch side and repeat the procedure until you feel the burr on the first side. You have now established an edge.

Remove the burr by stroking the blade gently over the sharpening surface on both sides, as if cutting very thin slices. Keep the bevel flat towards the sharpener and move from side to side until the burr is gone.

If the blade is very dull or damaged, use a fine-grained grindstone and plenty of water and sharpen until you have a raw edge. Use much cooling liquid and never sharpen on a dry stone. A hot-ground edge looses its heat treatment and ruins the blade.
